🌟 Welcome to Sunday Service at ARC Sydenham! 🌟
Hello and welcome! Whether you’re joining us in person, online, or catching up during the week, we’re thrilled to have you here. Today, we continue our series for this season with a powerful teaching on discipleship, led by Elder Akin
⏰ Service Timestamps:
• Pre-Service Prayer: 00:00
• Service Starts (Praise & Worship): 18:00
• Welcome, Announcements and Testimonies: 56:03
• Sermon Starts: 1:37:00
Service Theme: Discipleship is at the heart of the body of Christ.
From the word “disciple,” comes “discipline.” Discipline is not natural—it is learned. This learning requires submission and a humble yielding to the will of God.
📖 Key Scriptures:
• John 6:53-58
• Matthew 17:14-17
• Luke 19:13
• John 14:12
• Acts 8:14-20
• Matthew 26:20-21
• Acts 22:3
Key Points from Today’s Sermon
🔹 You Were Chosen
Jesus handpicked His disciples. Some followed out of a desire to be close to Him. Will you answer His call?
🔹 Proximity Matters
Are you willing to press closer to Jesus, like the woman with the issue of blood, who reached out in faith for her healing?
🔹 Taught by Jesus
Discipleship involves deep learning. Jesus’ disciples asked questions, sought understanding, and received profound teachings (e.g., fasting and prayer as deeper spiritual disciplines). What’s your motivation—ambition or purpose?
🔹 Work With Him
Discipleship requires action. Jesus gave His disciples skills and responsibilities (Luke 19:13, John 14:12). How are you adding value to the Kingdom?
🔹 Relationship, Not Transaction
Jesus shared meals with His disciples (Matthew 26:20-21). Discipleship is relational—it is about sitting at the feet of the Master to grow in connection and understanding.
Reflections
• What Made People Walk Away?
Jesus’ teachings challenged comfort zones. What triggers might cause you to step away from your faith journey?
• What Makes People Stay?
Commitment, humility, and proximity to Jesus strengthen the bond of discipleship.
The Discipline of Discipleship
There are two types of discipline:
1. The pain of discipline, which requires effort but is manageable.
2. The weight of pain, which is far heavier and longer lasting. Which will you choose?
Challenge for the Week:
Examine your discipleship journey. Are you learning, working, and growing with Christ, or are you walking away when it gets hard?
